Coastal Family Health Center Highlights Eye Health This October

Coastal Family Health Center is recognizing three important eye health observances this October: Eye Injury Prevention Month, Home Eye Safety Month, and World Sight Day (October 9). These national observances remind families that protecting vision is a vital part of overall health and wellbeing.

“Eye injuries, accidents at home, and undiagnosed vision problems affect millions of Americans each year,” said Ashley Burns, OD. “Simple steps—like using protective eyewear, storing household products safely, and scheduling regular eye exams—can make a significant difference in preserving sight.”

Coastal Family Health Center provides comprehensive primary care, including optometry services, for patients across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Care is available for the insured, uninsured, and underinsured, with fees based on a sliding scale. The health center accepts nearly all insurance types, ensuring that quality vision care is accessible to everyone.

“At Coastal, we want our community to understand that vision health is essential,” said Jeffery Perez, OD. “Many eye conditions can be prevented or treated if caught early. A routine eye exam can protect your sight and improve your quality of life.”

This October, Coastal Family Health Center encourages residents to take simple steps toward better eye health:

  • Wear protective eyewear when using tools, chemicals, or doing yard work.
  • Keep sharp objects and cleaning products stored safely in the home.
  • Schedule routine eye exams for early detection of vision problems.
